Xiaomi Steals The Spotlight From Apple With The Release Of The Xiaomi Su7 Sedan

Xiaomi Beats Apple to the Punch with Release of the Xiaomi SU7 Sedan

In a surprising turn of events, Xiaomi, a major Chinese smartphone rival to Apple, has beaten the tech giant in releasing a fully-fledged car. And to add insult to injury, Xiaomi named it after none other than the iPhone. While Apple’s much-anticipated “Apple Car” is still on the horizon and set for release later in the decade, Xiaomi’s SU7 sedan will begin deliveries in just three months’ time.

According to CarNewsChina, details about the car were leaked through filings with local regulators. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) published high-resolution images of the vehicle before it was officially announced. The Xiaomi SU7 is an electric sedan with dimensions measuring 4997/1963/1455 mm and a wheelbase of 3000 mm. It will be available with two wheel options: 19″ and 20″. The tire specifications are 245/45 R19 and 245/40 R20, respectively. Additionally, Xiaomi showcased two versions of the vehicle—one equipped with lidar technology installed behind the front windshield, and another without.

The car offers two powertrain options: a rear-wheel drive (RWD) motor with a capacity of 220 kW or an all-wheel drive (AWD) motor with a capacity of 495 kW. Among its exciting features are an active rear wing and a built-in electronic toll collection (ETC) function that automatically pays tolls without requiring the car to stop.

But what really stands out is Xiaomi’s nod—purposely or not—to Apple’s iPhone lineup. The company has aptly named its 4-door, 5-seater cars as follows: SU7, SU7 Pro, and SU7 Max—a clear reference to Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models. Considering that Xiaomi has been known for producing devices that closely resemble Apple products, such as its Mi4 resembling an iPhone 5 and the blatant imitation of Apple’s Titanium advert in a recent Xiaomi advertisement, it wouldn’t be surprising if this naming choice was intentional.

While Xiaomi can’t be accused of copying the actual Apple Car since no one knows what it looks like yet, it’s safe to say that other automakers like Porsche, Tesla, and McLaren are closely watching these developments. As anticipation builds around Xiaomi’s car release, fans and critics alike will be eager to see how the company fares against Apple’s future entry into the automotive industry.

Exciting news like this proves that advancements in technology continue to shape our future. Companies like Xiaomi are constantly pushing boundaries with innovative products that challenge industry giants like Apple. It’s clear that competition is essential for fostering progress and driving meaningful change within the tech sector.

As we eagerly await further news about both the Xiaomi SU7 and Apple Car, it’s important to celebrate the ingenuity displayed by companies investing in futuristic endeavors. Whether it’s through breathtaking smartphones or groundbreaking electric vehicles, these innovations are shaping the world we live in.
