In this interview, Tom Smith from Acceleration Economy and Laura Gardner from Celonis speak with Eugenio Cassiano, the Senior Vice President of Strategy and Innovation at Celonis Labs. They discuss various topics related to innovation, collaboration, and generative AI.

Cassiano leads Celonis Labs, where they explore new business model innovation and ways to advance the company’s technology beyond current products’ functionality. He also heads the Strategy Innovation Group, which focuses on identifying “white spaces” for technological advancements.

One major product/innovation introduced at Celosphere is the Process Intelligence Graph. This graph is based on a common taxonomy or ontology that represents objects in the same language, regardless of their system source. The next step for Celonis Labs is to connect companies together through Business Collaboration Networks using this graph. By speaking the same language and driving operational excellence, these networks aim to enhance productivity across entire value chains. The first cluster is being established in the consumer electronics market, providing transparency throughout the value chain.

Another significant aspect discussed is orchestration engines. These engines allow for real-time adjustment of workflows. With partners, Celonis has developed an Orchestration Engine that receives intelligence at each process step. For example, AmerCare Royal implemented a line-of-business approach using Celonis and sees potential in leveraging it as an end-to-end “digital brain.” This approach has significantly improved their product return process from taking over 20 days to happening on the same day. As a result, customer experience has improved, human work has been optimized, and return cycle time has been shortened.

Cassiano also mentions the benefits of generative AI (GenAI), specifically its use in productivity and business-model-changing scenarios. Currently, customers are primarily focused on productivity use cases that help them with day-to-day tasks like marketing or sales. However, there is ongoing research into how GenAI can unlock new business models. One possible future capability of GenAI is its ability to describe or create an orchestration sequence that can receive data from Celonis’ process mining engine.

Overall, this interview provides valuable insights into the innovative work happening at Celonis and the potential impact of generative AI. It showcases how companies are leveraging technology to drive collaboration, improve processes, and unlock new possibilities for their businesses.
