Samsung Unveils its Generative AI Model, Samsung Gauss
Samsung, the South Korean tech giant, has publicly unveiled its own generative AI model named Samsung Gauss. The model takes inspiration from famous mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss, who developed the theory of normal distribution, also known as the bell curve.
During the annual Samsung AI Forum in Seoul, the company emphasized that the name “Samsung Gauss” reflects its vision to utilize AI to improve consumers’ lives by drawing knowledge and insights from various phenomena worldwide.
Currently being used internally to enhance employee productivity, Samsung Gauss will eventually be expanded to different product applications. The model comprises three components: Samsung Gauss Language, Samsung Gauss Code, and Samsung Gauss Image.
Language is a generative language model designed to boost work efficiency. It assists with tasks such as writing emails, summarizing documents, translating languages, and even enhancing consumer experiences through smarter device controls when applied to products.
Code and its coding assistant called code.i cater to in-house software development companies. They provide an interactive interface for easy and quick coding processes. Additionally, they support functions like code descriptions and test case generation.
Image is another component that enables the generation and editing of images. It seamlessly applies style changes, adds elements to images, and converts low-resolution images into high-resolution ones.
Moreover, these models can be applied on-device to ensure consumer privacy. Samsung is also actively working on ensuring safe AI usage through its dedicated AI Red Team. This team focuses on examining security and privacy issues related to data collection, AI development, service deployment, and generated results.
The realm of generative AI technology has witnessed significant advancements recently. Tools like ChatGPT have revolutionized our work processes by streamlining information access and tapping into the power of generational AI software. However, it’s essential to consider both their benefits and potential risks as we continue harnessing their capabilities in various domains.
