Samsung has unveiled its new generative AI model called Samsung Gauss. The model is being used internally to enhance employee productivity but will eventually be expanded to various products. Gauss consists of three components - Gauss Language, Gauss Code, and Gauss Image - that assist in tasks like writing emails, coding, and image editing. Samsung aims to ensure privacy by allowing the models to be applied on-device rather than relying on cloud-based processing. Samsung Unveils its Generative AI Model, Gauss

Samsung has recently introduced its own generative AI model called Samsung Gauss. The South Korean tech giant named this model after the renowned mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss, who was instrumental in establishing the theory of normal distribution, also known as the bell curve. During the Samsung AI Forum held in Seoul, the company explained that the name “reflects Samsung’s ultimate vision for the models, which is to draw from all phenomena and knowledge in the world to harness the power of AI for improving consumers’ lives.”

Developed by Samsung Research, Gauss is currently being used within the company to enhance employee productivity. However, Samsung intends to expand its applications to various products in the future. The Gauss model consists of three components: Samsung Gauss Language, Samsung Gauss Code, and Samsung Gauss Image.

Samsung Gauss Language is a generative language model designed to increase work efficiency. It assists in tasks like writing emails, summarizing documents, and translating. Additionally, when applied to products, it can enhance consumer experience by providing smarter device control.

The Code component and its coding assistant called code.i are specifically designed for in-house software development use. It facilitates easy and quick coding through an interactive interface that supports functions such as code description and test case generation.

The Image component allows users to effortlessly generate and edit images. This feature enables style changes, additions to images, and even conversion of low-resolution images into high-resolution ones.

Samsung aims to ensure consumers’ privacy by allowing these models to be applied on-device rather than relying on cloud-based processing. Furthermore, the company has established its own AI Red Team tasked with checking security and privacy issues throughout data collection, AI model development, service deployment, and generated results.

Generative AI tools like Samsung’s Gauss are revolutionizing various industries by streamlining work processes and simplifying information retrieval. However, as with any powerful technology advancement, there are potential risks that must be carefully considered.
