Generative AI models have the potential to revolutionize enterprise operations, offering businesses the opportunity to harness their power for domain-specific tasks. However, as with any emerging technology, there are challenges that need to be overcome to ensure successful implementation. These challenges include safeguarding data and ensuring the quality of AI-generated content.

One solution that addresses these challenges is the Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) framework. The RAG model augments prompts with external data from multiple sources such as document repositories, databases, or APIs. This allows businesses to make foundation models more effective for domain-specific tasks.

MongoDB Atlas, an integrated suite of data services, plays a crucial role in leveraging the capabilities of the RAG model. MongoDB Atlas provides developers with a simplified and accelerated development environment for data-driven applications. With its Vector Search feature, which seamlessly integrates vector data storage with operational data storage, it eliminates the need for a separate database. This integration enables powerful semantic search capabilities and allows businesses to build AI-powered applications efficiently.

Another tool that facilitates generative AI is Amazon SageMaker. It is a comprehensive platform that enables enterprises to build, train, and deploy machine learning (ML) models. Vector embedding is a vital process in this solution. By converting text or image data into a vector representation, businesses can generate vector embeddings using SageMaker JumpStart. These embeddings can then be used to update the collection with the created vectors for each document.

MongoDB Atlas Vector Search is an innovative feature that allows businesses to store and search vector data directly within MongoDB. Vector data represents points in high-dimensional spaces and is often used in ML and AI applications. Leveraging a technique called k-nearest neighbors (k-NN), MongoDB Atlas Vector Search enables businesses to find similar vectors efficiently. Additionally, storing vector data alongside operational data enhances performance and real-time access.

Creating a MongoDB Vector Search index on the vector field is the next step. This index uses the knnVector type and requires representing the vector field as an array of numbers (BSON int32, int64, or double data types only). It’s important to review knnVector type limitations before proceeding with this step.

Querying the vector data store can be done using the Vector Search aggregation pipeline. This pipeline utilizes the Vector Search index to perform semantic searches on stored vectors.

SageMaker JumpStart offers pre-trained large language models (LLMs) that are designed to solve various natural language processing (NLP) tasks such as text summarization, question answering, and natural language inference. In this solution, the Hugging Face FLAN-T5-XL model from SageMaker JumpStart is utilized for enhanced NLP capabilities.
