Brilliant Labs, a startup company, has introduced their latest product, the Frame smart glasses. These glasses incorporate generative AI technology to create a unique user experience in the world of augmented reality (AR). The Frame resembles Where’s Waldo glasses and houses a digital assistant named Noa.
Noa is a multimodal assistant that utilizes AI models from various brands to provide users with valuable information about their surroundings. With just a simple command, users can learn about different objects by looking at them. For example, if you want to know the nutritional value of a raspberry, you can ask Noa to perform a visual analysis, and the results will be displayed on the AR lens. Additionally, Noa offers real-time language translation using Whisper AI.
The Frame also incorporates Perplexity AI model for internet searches. Not only does it retrieve search results, but it also provides price tags for potential purchases. You can scan a piece of clothing to get immediate price checks or check out home listings by looking at houses in your vicinity. The Frame even has the capability to generate images on demand through Stable Diffusion technology.
Noa continues to evolve as an assistant over time. It constantly gathers information from its environment and adopts a unique personality based on user interactions. When first activated, Noa appears as an “egg” on display. Users must answer a series of questions before the egg hatches into an avatar character that reflects their personality.
To better understand the inner workings of the Frame, Brilliant Labs provides an exploded view on their official website. The micro-OLED projects content onto a geometric prism within the lens, similar to how Google Glass functioned. The camera sits on a PCBA located on the nose bridge of the glasses, while batteries are housed within two hubs at the end of each stem.
Currently available for pre-order at $350 per pair, the Frame comes in three colors: Smokey Black, Cool Gray, and transparent H20. Prescription lenses can also be added for an additional cost of $448. Brilliant Labs plans to launch a subscription service in the future to remove the daily usage cap on AI features.
In conclusion, the Frame smart glasses by Brilliant Labs offer an exciting blend of generative AI and augmented reality. With Noa as a digital assistant, users can effortlessly learn about their surroundings, perform internet searches, and even translate languages in real-time. The evolving personality of Noa adds a personalized touch to the user experience. With its unique design and advanced technology, the Frame is set to make waves in the world of AR and generative AI.
