In this Celosphere 2023 interview, Acceleration Economy’s Tom Smith and Celonis’ Faika Halici speak with Florian Tue, head of procurement transformation at Carrefour.

Carrefour is a major European retailer based in France that operates in 40 countries and has about 14,000 stores. With revenue reaching around 80 billion euros, Tue’s role is to enable and enhance digital transformation in the procurement function.

In the summer of 2023, Carrefour identified generative AI as having high potential for various functions within the company, including procurement, marketing, and human resources. The goal was to find use cases that could improve productivity and add value to the procurement function. Through generative AI, they discovered that the time involved in comparing and analyzing quotes from suppliers decreased significantly. What used to take 30 minutes now only takes 10 minutes with generative AI.

Tue highlights that generative AI has demonstrated strong accuracy and provides significant productivity benefits. However, he advises customers and prospects to stay updated with the latest releases of large language models as it can be challenging to keep up with the pace of generative AI releases.

As a business stakeholder impacted by Carrefour’s process mining work, Tue emphasizes the importance of identifying bottlenecks and creating detailed action plans to address any issues or areas for improvement.

Additionally, Celonis’ new Process Intelligence Graph offers valuable insights for exploring business questions by leveraging their platform. It allows companies to uncover benefits such as identifying double payments.
