To enable SGE in Chrome, you’ll need the desktop browser version and a valid Chrome account (not a work or school account). Simply open Chrome, click on the profile icon in the upper right corner, and select “Turn on sync” from the pop-up menu. Enter your Google account email address and password if prompted. If you’re already signed into your Google account within Chrome and have enabled Sync, you can skip this step.
Once you’re signed in, open a new tab in Chrome. On the start page to the left of your profile icon, you’ll find a small beaker icon. Click on it to access Google Labs in a new tab.
On the Google Labs page, locate the SGE card. There will be an On/Off slider on the card. Click on it to set it to the On position. You can then close the Google Labs tab.
Back on the regular Google search page, type your query as you normally would. Above the standard search results, you’ll see a Generate button. Click on it to generate an AI response for your query.
The generated AI results will appear alongside the regular search results. You can choose to further explore those results or ask follow-up questions based on them by clicking on suggested options.
