Emergency Medicine Physician Paul Mucciolo Announces Candidacy for Flagler County School Board

Dr. Paul Mucciolo, an experienced emergency-medicine physician at AdventHealth Palm Coast, has filed his candidacy for the District 3 seat on the Flagler County School Board. With a desire to bring back “a healthy dose of professionalism” and restore the school district’s A-rated status, Mucciolo is determined to prioritize students’ needs.

Mucciolo previously ran for the same seat three years ago and is now seeking to replace Colleen Conklin, who has held the position since 2000. Conklin, along with Cheryl Massaro, will not be running again in 2024. This shift will leave the board with significantly less combined elected-office experience than it has had in recent memory.

The school district’s administrative staff has also undergone changes, with first-year Superintendent LaShakia Moore leading the way. However, concerns have been raised about the board’s focus on cultural issues rather than prioritizing students’ interests.

In response to these concerns, Mucciolo aims to redirect attention towards improving educational opportunities and establishing stronger ties between the school board and the community. He believes that by fostering a more business-like attitude and incorporating a higher level of professionalism, Flagler schools can regain their A-rated status.

Despite his demanding schedule as an emergency medicine physician and medical director at AdventHealth Palm Coast and AdventHealth Palm Coast Parkway, Mucciolo expresses his commitment to attending meetings and representing his constituents effectively.

Apart from his medical career, Mucciolo and his wife have been residents of Palm Coast since 2008. He switched from Halifax Health to AdventHealth in 2015 for its range of opportunities to serve patients during their most vulnerable moments.

Mucciolo faces competition from Nicole Durenberger for the District 3 seat. Nevertheless, he remains dedicated to continuing Conklin’s good work by listening to the needs of students, teachers, and the community as a whole.

As Mucciolo enters this campaign with fresh perspectives, he acknowledges the advantage of uncovering new insights while also acknowledging the experience and dedication of his predecessor. With difficult times ahead, such as navigating the challenges of COVID-19 and potential economic downturns, Mucciolo emphasizes the importance of considering everyone’s needs.

By prioritizing students’ education and fostering strong relationships between educational institutions and businesses in the community, Muciollo aims to create a positive impact on Flagler County’s school district. As elections approach in 2024, it will be interesting to see how his ideas and vision resonate with voters.
