Apple Plans To Launch “Apple Gpt” Chatbot For Iphone 16 In 2024

Rumors suggest that Apple plans to launch its own chatbot, known as "Apple GPT," in late 2024, potentially incorporating it into iOS 18 and the iPhone 16. The company aims to combine cloud AI with on-device processing to protect user privacy. It is speculated that the generative AI could enhance Siri's functionality. Apple CEO Tim Cook has acknowledged the company's work on generative AI and emphasized the need for careful consideration and avoidance of biases and hallucinations. However, analysts believe Apple still lags behind its competitors in AI development. The release may be showcased at the WWDC in June 2024.

Rumors have been circulating for quite some time now that Apple has plans to introduce a ChatGPT rival in its best iPhones. And now, a recent report adds more weight to these speculations.

According to industry analyst Jeff Pu, we may see the launch of the so-called “Apple GPT” chatbot as early as late 2024. This means that it could potentially be included in iOS 18 and the iPhone 16, bringing generative artificial intelligence (AI) to Apple devices sooner than anticipated.

However, before we get too excited, it’s important to note that Pu warns about the need for patience with the rollout of Apple’s AI. The company wants to ensure that it avoids any privacy mishaps that have affected other AI applications recently, which may take some time.

Pu also reveals that sources have informed him of Apple’s plans to construct several hundred AI servers this year, with even more expected in 2024. The final product is believed to combine cloud AI with on-device processing in order to protect user privacy.

Although not much detail is provided in the report about what specifically Apple intends to do with its generative AI, other analysts have put forth some ideas. One prominent suggestion is incorporating AI into Siri to significantly enhance its functionality compared to its current state.

Even Apple CEO Tim Cook publicly acknowledged that the company has been working on generative AI for years. He emphasized approaching it thoughtfully and being aware of potential misuses and issues surrounding bias and hallucination.

This suggests that Pu’s estimated release date of 2024 might be slightly optimistic. Additionally, fellow analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously stated that Apple’s progress in AI lags significantly behind its competitors, indicating they still have a long way to go before launching their own AI technologies.

Regardless of when Apple GPT ultimately debuts, it is evident that Apple is investing considerable effort into challenging ChatGPT and developing something superior. If it is indeed set to release with iOS 18, we may even get a glimpse of it at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2024.
